Model United Nations at Hamilton High School
Model United Nations is one of the most engaging and rewarding extra curricular activities at Hamilton High School. It provides students with the opportunity to develop their public speaking, research, negotiation, and critical thinking skills while gaining a deeper understanding of international affairs and global issues.
Members of the Model UN club meet every week at lunchtime to prepare for conferences and debating events throughout the year. These sessions allow students to research current global issues, practice debating and diplomacy, and develop the confidence needed to represent their assigned countries effectively.
A highlight of the Model UN calendar is our participation in the Davis College Model UN debating event, which takes place over the course of a week each January in City Hall. This well-established conference brings together students from a wide range of schools and provides an excellent opportunity for our delegates to engage in meaningful debate on important international issues. The experience challenges students to think critically, collaborate with others, and develop solutions to complex global problems while strengthening their leadership and communication skills.
After the excitement of attending the Davis College Model UN and experiencing how a large-scale conference operates, Hamilton High School students are afforded the opportunity to organise and run their own Model United Nations conference over two days. This event welcomes students from schools across Bandon, who come together to debate a range of global issues in a formal and engaging setting. Hosting the conference allows our students to take on important leadership and organisational responsibilities, from chairing committees to managing the smooth running of the event. It is a valuable opportunity to put into practice the skills developed throughout the year while fostering a spirit of collaboration, diplomacy, and academic excellence among participating schools.
Model United Nations continues to grow in popularity within our school community. Whether students are experienced debaters or completely new to public speaking, Model UN offers a welcoming and supportive environment in which everyone can learn, contribute, and develop skills that will benefit them both in school and beyond.
We are proud of the enthusiasm, dedication, and professionalism shown by our delegates each year and look forward to continuing Hamilton High School's strong tradition of excellence in Model United Nations.
